COURSE DESCRIPTION

Introduction The Beauty industry in Australia is characterised by a substantial number of small businesses providing unique and complex beauty services to clients on a one-to-one basis. The Beauty industry is made up of small employers, many of whom are self-employed and operate their businesses from salons, hotels, health spas and hairdressing salons and retail outlets. Overview The Diploma has been designed for those wishing to operate as a beauty therapist employing staff and managing a beauty salon. It applies to those who are co-ordinating or managing the services within a small beauty salon, or a section or department within a larger store. It incorporates self-directed application of knowledge and skills. The beauty specialist at this level would provide services, including lash and brow treatments, facial treatments, make-up application and providing Spa Treatments. Course Entry Requirements Completion of Year 12 or equivalent Mature age entry applicable Reading and writing - a learner will be able to read, comprehend and write a range of texts within a variety of contexts. Oral communication - a learner will be able to use and respond to spoken language including some unfamiliar material within a variety of contexts. Numeracy and mathematics - a learner will be able to recognise and use a variety of conventions and symbolism of formal mathematics. Learning Outcomes These include: Provide manicure and pedicare services Provide body treatments Plan and provide the spa program Apply knowledge of skin science to beauty therapy treatments Anatomy and physiology Skin biology Skin science Nutrition Advise on beauty services Assess client’s treatment needs Provide service to clients Employment Opportunities To enable students who have successfully completed the course to work in the following areas: Beauty Salons Day spas Resorts Own business

COURSE OUTLINE
Commencement	For dates and times please phone our office on 1300 361 343.
Duration	3 days per week for 40 weeks Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 9:00am to 3:30pm (not including School and Public Holidays)
Location	295 Mann Street, Gosford
Work placement	240 hours work placement within a Beauty Salon is a compulsory component of this course. Suitable placements are arranged
Attendance	85% of classes must be attended to achieve competency for this qualification
What to wear	Dress in black pants, black (collared) stretch top and black enclosed shoes (required for OHS purposes)
What to bring	A positive attitude to learning  Folder & lecture pad  Stationery kit with pens & highlighters
What is provided	All textbooks and handouts Beauty kit Beauty products and equipment
Qualification	WRB50105 Diploma of Beauty Therapy
