COURSE DESCRIPTION

Overview The Certificate III in Hairdressing has been designed as the standard entry level qualification for the hairdressing industry. Likely functions in the hairdressing industry for those who achieve this qualification involve employment as a hairdresser working as part of team in a salon, performing processes that require a range of well developed skills where discretion and judgement is required; with responsibility for own outputs. Functions at this level include applying skills and knowledge to sell products and services, ensuring a safe working environment and performing a full range of client services, including client consultation and advice, hair and scalp treatments, haircutting, hair design, colour and lightening, and chemical reformation services on male and/or female clients. Course Entry Requirements Reading and writing - a learner will be able to read and comprehend a range of simple texts and write a range of short texts in a number of contexts which may be interrelated. Oral communication - a learner will be able to use and respond to spoken language within a variety of contexts. Numeracy and mathematics - a learner will be able to deal easily with straightforward calculations either manually and/or using a calculator. Learning Outcomes These include: Combine haircut structures on women Perform on scalp full head and re-touch bleach services Colour and wave hair Cut and style hair Lighten hair Schedule clients Communicate with clients Employment Opportunities To enable students who have successfully completed the course to work in the following areas: Hairdressing Salons Day spas Resorts Cruise liners Own business

COURSE OUTLINE
Commencement	Monday 16 February 2009
Completion	Thursday 17 December 2009
Duration	4 days per week for 40 weeks Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday’s 9:00am to 3:30pm (not including School and Public Holidays)
Location	42-46 Harrison Street, Cardiff 293-295 Mann Street, Gosford
Work placement	210 hours work placement within a Hair Salon is a compulsory component of this course
Attendance	85% of classes must be attended to achieve competency for this qualification
What to wear	Dress in black pants/skirt, black (collared) stretch top and black enclosed shoes (required for OHS purposes)
What to bring	A positive attitude to learning Pen & paper
