Jobs and Skills WA
Jobs and Skills WA provides a guaranteed, subsidised training place for eligible students enrolled in courses that are deemed State priority qualifications, where a training place is available. The guarantee means that for State priority courses, the Government will not limit the number of training places it subsidies. Many industry qualifications, including apprenticeships and training programs, are subsidised under Jobs and Skills WA as general industry training courses and foundation skills and equity courses. However, places are not guaranteed in these training programs.
2018 Priority Industrial Training
Under Jobs and Skills WA, students can take up guaranteed training places in over 120 high priority industry qualifications. The qualifications gained are aligned with skilled occupations in high demand across Western Australia. Priority industry qualifications equip students to take up jobs that are considered industry critical in WA. Under Jobs and Skills WA, there is no upper age limit and no restrictions based on your previous level of awarded qualification.
Participation- Equity ProgramSome people require additional support to help them access training and the department has a strategy to help them- the Participation Program. Registered training organisations who are approved to deliver courses within this program may offer additional support such as mentoring, counselling, assistance with meals, transport, childcare, language and literacy to the following groups: Aboriginal/Torres Strait Island School Students (ASBT), Aboriginal people, people with disabilities, youth at risk and culturally and linguistically diverse.
You are eligible for a guaranteed training place if you have left school, your primary place of residence is in Western Australia and you are:
- An Australian citizen; or
- A permanent visa holder or holder of visa subclass 309, 820 or 826; or
- A dependent or spouse of the primary holder of a visa subclass 457.
Your place in the course will be guaranteed and your training subsidised if:

- A TAFE or a preferred private training provider has a training place available; and
- You meet the normal entrance requirements for the course.
