CHC52015 – Diploma of Community Services

 

This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of community settings and clients’ homes, who provide training and support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centered approach, work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.

This course develops your industry specific knowledge and skills to work across a number of roles in the disability sector such as home, community, and ageing. Some of the key aspects you will learn include – how to undertake case management for clients with complex needs, work independently and amongst a team of support workers, skills to provide individual and person-centered support to those living with a disability.

This qualification includes 14 units of competency which comprises of 11 Core and 3 Elective units. Elective units have been carefully selected based on the industry consultation to ensure the learner achieves the desired vocational outcomes of the course.

Core:

  • CHCCCS015 Provide individualised support
  • CHCDIS002 Follow established person-centered behaviour supports
  • CHCDIS005 Develop and provide person-centered service responses
  • CHCDIS007 Facilitate the empowerment of people with disability
  • CHCDIS008 Facilitate community participation and social inclusion
  • CHCDIS009 Facilitate ongoing skills development using a person-centered approach
  • CHCDIS010 Provide person-centered services to people with disability with complex needs
  • CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
  • CHCLEG003 Manage legal and ethical compliance
  • HLTAAP001 Recognise healthy body systems
  • HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care

Elective:

  • CHCPRT002 Support the rights and safety of children and young people
  • CHCHCS001 Provide home and community support services
  • CHCAGE002 Implement falls prevention strategies

The above elective units have been selected based on the industry requirements and in relation to the vocational outcome. REACH for Training may consider offering other preferred elective units based on the applicable training package requirements.

Duration: Up to 18 months

Study commitment required:

We recommend a learner would require a minimum of 35-45 hours of commitment per week to complete this qualification. This includes participation in class, homework and self-study, work placement hours, assignment activities and assessments.

Training delivery method:

Training is delivered in a blended mode including scheduled face-to-face learning in class and online learning activities.

Written assessment, Project, Case studies, Role Plays, Workplace Observation

Age

Minimum 18 Years

English:

  • Year 10 or equivalent; or
  • Minimum 1 year work experience communicating in English

LLN

Completion of LLN Assessment at Level 3 of ACSF

Academic requirements:

  • Year 12 or equivalent; or
  • Completed a Certificate II or Certificate III level qualification; or
  • Minimum 1 year work experience in a care/services industry

Physical requirements:

This course equips you with knowledge and skills required to provide services to people living with a disability. It includes undertaking mandatory work placement in a Disability Services Provider’s facility where the daily activities would include performing tasks standing for long hours, manual handling, lifting, bending, moving besides other physical activities while serving clients at the care facility.

Technology requirements:

This course is offered in a blended mode and the learning resources are accessible online through our Learning Management System. To ensure access to the learning resources, you would require:

  • A Personal Computer/Laptop/Tablet or any Mobile device
  • Appropriate software e.g. Microsoft Office to engage with the learning and assessment
  • High speed internet connectivity
  • Audio-visual tools to engage with the interactive video materials
  • Basic computer skills to engage with the LMS and in live online learning sessions

National Police Check (Fee applies)**

This course requires you to complete a mandatory work placement of 120 hours in a regulated Disability Care Services provider’s facility.

Requirements:

At REACH, our learners are responsible for finding a suitable workplace facility to undertake the mandatory work placement. Our student support team is available to assist with strategies of identifying a suitable venue.

Approval of the facility:

Once identified, our Work placement coordinators verify the suitability of the venue to ensure our learners will get opportunities of learning and practicing the required tasks.

Documents required:

REACH provides:

  • Work place Agreement between REACH and the employer
  • Insurance Certificate for undertaking work placement
  • Work placement Log book and other related materials

Learner to organise:

  • National Police Check Certificate
  • Working with Children Check
  • Any other evidence requested by the employer e.g. proof of vaccination etc.

Undertaking work placement:

Prior to the commencement of the work placement, learners are informed about:

  • the workplace, their policy and procedures and the dos and don’ts
  • the requirements of the placement and the activities to be undertaken
  • the evidence to be recorded in the Work placement Log Book.

You have the flexibility to make payments as per an agreed. Please note that REACH does not accept any payment of fees over $1500 at a time.

Government funded:

If you enrol under a government subsidised option, your fees will be in accordance with the funding requirements as defined by the relevant funding body.
